The protection of a registered industrial design in Malaysia comes into force on the filing date of the application for the registration and subsists for five (5) years thereafter.
The protection period of a registered industrial design can be extended for two (2) further consecutive terms of five years each.
Therefore, the protection for a registered industrial design in Malaysia is for up to 15 years, subject to application for extension every five (5) years.
