Who can apply for a domestic violence protection order?

You can apply for a domestic violence protection order yourself if you are experiencing violence in a family relationship.

A police officer or social welfare officer from the Department of Social Welfare can also make an application on your behalf.

In the case of a child below the age of 18 years or an incapacitated adult who is incapable of filling in a complaint, an application for a domestic violence protection order can be made by:

  • the parent
  • guardian
  • relative
  • person responsible for the case of such child or incapacitated adult, as the case may be
  • by a police officer or
  • a welfare officer from the Department of Social Welfare (Malay: Jabatan Kebajikan Masyarakat).
