Having oily skin can mainly be caused by the abnormal production of oil in the skin. Hormonal changes which take place during puberty can play a big role in having oily skin. Emotional and physical situations can also cause the skin to react badly which can worsen an oily skin condition. heredity also plays a role in having oily skin.

Oil in the skin are naturally produced by the glads that are located in the second layer of the skin. These glads are usually located in the face, chest, neck and back. This is the reason why these are the areas which are more oily compared to the other parts of your body. The oil produced by these glads are responsible for the health of your skin. It helps seal in moisture in your skin to keep it plump and hydrated most of the time.

For people with oily skin, their skin will tend to age less quickly than others because their skin will have lesser wrinkles and creases as they age. The abundance of oil will keep the skin hydrated all of the time so there is a lesser need to put on moisturizer to keep the skin moisturized.

Diet place a big role in your skin's texture too. The better your diet is, the better your skin will actually look. Eating a lot of junk food and having a diet with lesser essential minerals and vitamins will reflect in the condition of your skin. That's why it's important to have a healthy diet if you want to keep your skin looking good. Drinking plenty of water or fruit juices will actually help keep your skin hydrated and this will also flush out toxins which is bad for your skin. Toxins can normally be acquired in drinking soft drinks, decaffeinated drinks and alcohol too. So, to avoid having bad skin, stay away from those kind of drinks.

Also try to restrict your intake of too much sugar, chocolate or anything sweet. Try to reduce the amount of unhealthy fat in your diet too. This would include processed meats or highly seasoned food. Try including healthy fat in your diet to help keep your skin healthy. Olive oil and fish liver oil are just some of the few healthy fats you can include in your diet to keep help maintain the good health of your skin.

You can also avoid smoking as this can enlarge your pores and can lead to serious skin damage. Smoking actually strips your skin of it's natural oils leaving it dry and easily prone to any kind of bacteria.

Getting enough sleep also plays a big role in keeping your skin healthy. Our skin cells actually renew when we sleep so it's advisable to get at least a decent number of hours when you sleep to ensure that you skin's cell renewal will be at its finest.

Oily skin also still needs to be moisturized because although our skin is high in oil, it could be low in moisture. So, it's important to use a moisturizer to keep your skin hydrated. Just make sure you use one that doesn't contain oil to avoid the over production of your oil glands.
