Department of Civil Defence
Also known as the Jabatan Pertahanan Awam Malaysia (JPA3) in Malay term. A department under the Home Ministry (KDN). Established on March 24, 1952 under the Civil Defence Ordinance 1951, which was later replaced with the Civil Defence Act 1951 (Akta Pertahanan Awam 1951) following the country's independence in 1957. The main objectives of the department are to protect the public and property from threats of security and disaster; train citizens in basic preparedness and skills required during emergency; getting citizens involved in civil defence activities; and make available and manage emergency and disaster services.
