The Road Transport Department (RTD) of Malaysia is officially known as the Jabatan Pengangkutan Jalan, abbreviated JPJ.

It is a department under the purview of the Ministry of Transport, Malaysia and is responsible for registration and licensing of motor vehicles and drivers, issuance of foreign vehicle permits, and coordinating all transportation related aspects in Malaysia.
The department is also entrusted with power to enforce laws relating to vehicles and traffic under the Road Transport Act 1987 [Act 333] to ensure safety of all parties from risks arising out of the use of vehicles and collection of revenue.
Jabatan Pengangkutan Jalan was established in 1937 as Road Transport Board under the Traffic Enactment 1937.
On April 1, 1946, Jabatan Pengangkutan Jalan (JPJ) was set up to replace the Board in coordinating aspects relating to transportation in the country. This was followed by the enactment of the Road Transport Ordinance 1958 and the Road Transport Act 1987 [Act 333]. The Road Traffic Ordinance 1953 was also approved to replace the Traffic Enactment 1937.
