Manulife Holdings Berhad

First established in 1963 as British American Insurance Co. Ltd in Kuala Lumpur. The company became public in 1981 and was listed on the KLSE in 1984.

British American was renamed to John Hancock Life Insurance (Malaysia) Berhad in 1994.

Manulife's entry into Malaysia was a result of a large-scale global merger between Canadian-based Manulife Financial Corporation and US-based John Hancock Financial Services, Inc. in April 2004.

John Hancock Life Insurance (M) Berhad was renamed Manulife Insurance (Malaysia) Berhad in 2005.

Following a restructuring exercise, Manulife Insurance (Malaysia) Berhad became Manulife Holdings Berhad in October 2008. Its subsidiaries include:

Manulife Holdings Berhad acquired MAAKL Mutual Berhad in December 2013.
