People's Progressive Party (PPP)

The People's Progressive Party (Parti Progresif Penduduk Malaysia) is a political party in Malaysia. Formed in 1953 by the Seenivasagam brothers under the name, Perak Progressive Party, mainly as an opposition party to the Alliance (which later became the Barisan Nasional). PPP becomes a component of the Alliance in 1954 but withdrew from the Alliance before the 1955 Federal Legislative Council Elections due to non-allocation of seats for PPP. In 1956, renamed People's Progressive Party to reflect a national image. In 1972, PPP joined the Barisan Nasional. The party is one of the constituent members of the ruling National Front (Barisan Nasional) and is a multiracial party.
