Parti Keadilan Rakyat (KEADILAN or PKR)

Also known as the People's Justice Party in English term. An opposition party established on April 4, 1999 as Parti Keadilan Nasional (National Justice Party) by Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, the wife of former Deputy Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. In 1999, PAS, DAP, Keadilan and PRM formed Barisan Alternatif (BA) coalition to couterweight the ruling BN. DAP withdrawn from BA in 2001. Parti Keadilan Nasional merged with Parti Rakyat Malaysia-PRM (Malaysian People's Party) in 2003 and renamed Parti Keadilan Rakyat. Keadilan's core principle is to promote social and economic justice, political corruption and human rights issues within a non-ethnic framework.
