Jabatan Laut Sabah
Also known as the Sabah Marine Department in English term. A federal agency placed under the purview of the Ministry of Transport, Malaysia.
The history of the Jabatan Laut Sabah started in 1925 when the first lighthouse was built in Kalampunian Island to help merchant ships sail safely to North Borneo ports. The first Marine Department office was built in Liberty Wharf. The department has since moved and expanded along with the current development in Sabah. Responsibilities of the department under the Merchant Shipping Ordinance include ensuring the safety of merchant ships, maritime and passenger and marine pollution control.
The Jabatan Laut Sabah official website features navigation aids (lighthouses, beacon, buoy, mooring buoy), marine notices, regulations, e-form (medical examination certificate, seafarer registration, medical practitioner's report) and tender.
