Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB)

Also known as the Lembaga Minyak Sawit Malaysia in Malay.

Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB) is the government agency responsible to promote and develop the Malaysian palm oil industry. It was established under the Malaysian Palm Oil Board Act 1998, which is the result merger of the Palm Oil Research Institute of Malaysia (PORIM) and the Palm Oil Registration and Licensing Authority (PORLA), and began operation on 1 May 2000.

Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB) is an agency under the purview of the Ministry of Plantation Industries and Commodities.

The Journal of Oil Palm Research is an international refereed journal on oil palm published by MPOB with frequency publication of two to four times a year. The journal includes full-length original research papers and scientific review papers on various aspects of palm oil and other palms.

Research and Development, the core function of the Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB) is undertaken by the following divisions:
  • Biology Research Division
  • Integration Research and Extension Division
  • Engineering and Processing Division
  • Advanced Oleochemical Technology Division
  • Product Development and Advisory Services Division
  • Advanced Biotechnology and Breeding Centre

Other functions of the Malaysian Palm Oil Board are:
  • Implement policies and development programmes
  • Regulate, register, co-ordinate and promote all activities relating to the oil palm industry
  • Plan and implement training programmes and human resource development
  • Be the resource and information centre of the oil palm industry
  • Liaise and co-ordinate with other organisations inside and outside of Malaysia to further enhance the Malaysian oil palm industry
