In 1990, the Delft Hydraulic & Co. research findings identified the need for Malaysia to establish a research institution with capabilities of conducting experimental simulation and numerical hydrodynamic analysis, morphological processes and interactions between human behaviour and ecological systems. The report findings resulted a call for a Cabinet Meeting on April 14, 1993 which saw the approval on the establishment of the National Hydraulic Research Institute of Malaysia (NAHRIM).
National Hydraulic Research Institute of Malaysia (NAHRIM) officially started its operation in September 1995.
National Hydraulic Research Institute of Malaysia is a government institute under the purview of the
Ministry Of Natural Resources and Environment (NRE).
The Institute is a specialist research and consulting institute particularly in the area of civil and structural engineering and serving niche sectors in hydraulic, water resources, river, coastal and port engineering. Applications include water resources development, waterways management, water quality, river and environmental management.
