Department of National Service Training

Also known as the Jabatan Latihan Khidmat Negara in Malay term. The department started operation on October 15, 2003 under the National Service Training Act 2003 (Akta Latihan Khidmat Negara 2003) to plan, implement and monitor the effectiveness of the National Service Training Programme (NSTP) or Program Latihan Khidmat Negara (PLKN). The NST Programme is a nation-building programme focused on developing good character, noble values strengthening the patriotic spirit and promoting multi-racial integration and unity. The programme started on February 16, 2004. Youth of a certain age are randomly selected through a computerised process to undergo a three-month training at training camps nationwide. National Service Trainees are not subjected to military-style training.
