Langkawi Development Authority (LADA)

Also known as Lembaga Pembangunan Langkawi in Malay term. LADA was established in 1990 under the Langkawi Development Authority (LADA) Act 1990 (Act 423) and responsible to stimulate and develop infrastructures, tourism, industries, trading and residential areas within LADA's boundary. Langkawi was declared a duty free port in 1987 and tourism city in 2001. Langkawi is also listed in the UNESCO Global Network of Geoparks on June 1, 2007 as the world's 52nd Geopark and the first in Southeast Asia.
