Sewerage Services Department (SSD)

Also known as the Jabatan Perkhidmatan Pembetungan (JPP) in Malay term. Established on March 1, 1994 under the Ministry of Energy, Water and Communication. Prior to 1994, sewerage services were under the jurisdiction of individual local authorities nationwide. Federalization of sewerage services took place in stages from 1994 and Indah Water Konsortium (IWK) signed concession agreement with the government to manage sewerage services in all states except Kelantan, Sabah, Sarawak and Majlis Perbandaran Johor Baru. The Sewerage Services Department (SSD) is responsible for planning, providing, operating and managing sewerage services in Malaysia.
