Special Education Department
Also known as the Jabatan Pendidikan Khas (JPK) in Malay term. Established on October 1, 1995 under the Ministry of Education. Formerly a unit in the School Department. The department plays a major role in planning and implementing the quality of special education programs in both the primary and secondary schools in Malaysia. It is responsible for providing education for students with disability or behavioral problems such as the visually or hearing impaired and individual with down syndrome, mild autism, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), mild mental retardation or dyslexia. The special education is implemented through special schools, integrated program, inclusive program and rehabilitation education program.
