Fisheries Development Authority of Malaysia
Also known as Lembaga Kemajuan Ikan Malaysia (LKIM) in Malay term. LKIM is a statutory body under the Ministry of Agriculture and was established under the Fisheries Development Authority Act 1971 to improve fishermen's socioeconomic condition. The functions of the authority are to promote and develop efficient and effective management of fisheries enterprises and marketing of fish; to provide and supervise credit facilities for fish production and to ensure that these facilities are put to maximum use; to engage in fisheries enterprises; to promote and undertake economic and social developments of Fishermen's Associations; to register and control Fishermen's Associations; and to control and co-ordinate the performance of fisheries activities.
