LAW IN MALAYSIA
The law of Malaysia is mainly based on the the common law system of English law. However, the constitution of Malaysia provides for a unique dual justice system - the secular criminal and civil laws and the Islamic Syariah laws.
The Federal Court is the highest court in Malaysia. The legal profession in Peninsular Malaysia is regulated by the Malaysian Bar with the management of the its affairs undertaken by the Bar Council of Malaysia. Legal profession in the states of Sabah and Sarawak are regulated separately by the Sabah Law Association and Advocates' Association of Sarawak respectively. |
