Japan law firms and lawyers

The law of Japan is mainly based on the civil law and influenced by the German, French and American laws. The Constitution of Japan is the main source of law.

The Supreme Court of Japan, locally called 最高裁判所 is the highest court in Japan.

A Japanese lawyer licensed to practise law in Japan is called 'Bengoshi'. A bengoshi must be registered with a mandatory local bar association in the prefecture where the law office is located in Japan. The Japanese Federation of Bar Associations (日本弁護士連合会) is the national level professional body that encompasses all local bar associations.
