LAW IN AUSTRALIA
The law of Australia comprises many levels of codified and uncodified forms of law. At both the federal and State levels, the substantive law of Australia is largely derived from the common law system of English law.

The High Court of Australia is the highest court in Australia.

The Law Council of Australia, locally known as the Law Council is the representative body of the Australian legal profession at national level. The Law Council represents 16 Australian state and territory law societies and bar associations and the Law Firms Australia.

In some states of Australia, the professions of barrister and solicitor are fused whereas in other states, there is a split profession.

A barrister is a referral profession thus members of the public has not direct access to barristers. A person who needs to consult a lawyer will have to contact a solicitor first.
