I would like to start a petition writer business. Since many foreigners surrounding area are asking me to fill-up the passport renewal (Embassy), permit renewal and some other government related forms which they do not understand Bahasa Malaysia.

What are the requirement to start this business, officially in Malaysia. I already had registered, enterprise with Suruhanjaya Syarikat Malaysia (SSM). Other then this, should I require any other license or qualification?

Kindly advice.

The only requirement of a petition writer is that of his language skills and an ability to interview and gain the confidence of his client.

If you cannot express what someone conveys to you orally by reducing it to writing, then you must avoid doing so. This is because if you don't mean what you say it is just as bad as not saying what you mean. And you step into the shoes f your client when you write on his behalf.

Lawyers in Malaysia are in  fact to a large extent glorified petition writers. I hope this response helps you in your venture. I wish you all the success and don't be afraid to ask for help.

Any matter can be resolved simply by understanding the issues it involves that need to be resolved. If you express your clients position in clear and in precise terms it is easier for the other side to understand you and to get on the same side as you to resolve matters.

On the other hand, bombastic long winded matters which confuse the other side, irritate and trouble them to the extent they will not cooperate and remain offside.

Buy yourself a hand book on business letter writing and on how to express yourself in business and in commerce.

Anyone can be a petition writer. As in Kuala Lumpur city, you are to apply for a License with Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL). Google 'DBKL Petition Writer License'.

www.dbkl.gov.my/index.php?option=com_content&view=category&id=62&Itemid=162&lang=en

Application received will be processed the same day.
