Salary Withheld

On my last day of work (I was only working for 4 months here and I gave my notice last month), my colleague and I were called by our manager to have a talk.  We were accused of stealing RM100 that was never missing in the first place.  My workplace's cash register is programed in such a way that when a customer gives a remaining balance of a deposit, there will be a short amount at the end of the day.  This was explained again and again to my manager but he still doesn't understand.  He threatened that he will report to the police about the missing RM100, and then my colleague was dismissed on that day as well.  He then said that our salaries will be withheld until investigation is done.  We both earn less than RM1500 each.

What I'd like to ask is can he lawfully withhold our salaries in this case?

Hi there

1. Its unlawful to hold your salary. Lodge a complaint at the nearest Labour Department. If your in KL, that will be in Wisma Perkeso, if your working in Selangor, i believe there is one in Bangi and Subang.

2. As for your friend, ask her to lodge a complaint for unfair dismissal at the nearest Industrial Relations Department.
