I have a question regarding changing my last name legally in Malaysia after married.

I am Malaysian, Chinese and been working aboard for a few years. Recently, I got married to my New Zealand husband and we got legally registered in New Zealand. As part of the heritage, I would like to carry my husband's last name as the respect to their family, may I know if is possible to change my last name legally in Malaysia?

I don't plan to give up my Malaysian passport as my family still in Malaysia, all I want is just changing my last name to my husband's. What kind of procedure I have to go through and if is better if I hiring a lawyer to handle this for me.

Please advice, much appreciated.

Go to the Jabatan Pendaftaran Negara (JPN) branch that is nearest to your address. E.g. for me would be PJ State branch, go to the enquiry counter with all necessary documents (e.g: marriage certificate, I.C), get a form, fill it up and submit. Costs RM10. Once its ready for collection they'll call you.
