I was never married to the father of the child. But I let my child take her father's last name which I eventually learnt was a mistake (I had hopes then). However, our relationship ended when my child was a few months old. We have not been in contact with him since nor do we know his whereabouts. He has NEVER supported us financially (not even during pregnancy or childbirth). I would like to advise on how to proceed.

Is there a way for me to change my child's last name without his consent? Please advise.

There is no legal way to change the name of the Father in the BC.

You have admitted that you are the mother
He has admitted that he is the Father with your consent.

If you can take out his name, he can also take out your name.

Maybe there is a way out by marrying someone and he adopts the child legally and put his name in.

Mr Jeff, if you donno say you donno.....don't simply give a stupid answer. What do u mean, u can change, he also can change. Is the birth cert in his hand? Does he fulfill his responsibility as a father? Please get your fact right before u advise.

Singlemom, all the best to you. Do your best for the child, blessings will be on your way....

@ Toughmon

You should also go and get your facts correctly before you go around trumpeting. Either parent can go to JPN and extract a duplicate copy of the child's BC. So what if you are holding the child's BC?. Go to the JPN Website and read up all the latest changes in JPN.

I never wrote this "u can change, he also can change."
My answer was
If you can take out his name, he can also take out your name.

Do not put words into my mouth..!! Change names in BC is different from taking out names of either parent. Get your facts right. And do not act as though you are a journalist (maybe You are), cut and paste, taking out relevant things and distorting the essence of any replies.

"if you donno say you donno.....don't simply give a stupid answer"
So.. Madam know-all.... What is your rational answer and solution for Singlemom question?

Does he fulfill his responsibility as a father? Please get your fact right before u advise.
How did you know that the father is not a responsible person. SHOW PROOF..!!
Please also prove your fact before you trumpet..!!
I can also make this sweeping statement "When relationships sour, sometimes the mother will take the BC of the child and goes into hiding together with the child, making it sometimes impossible for the poor Father to find his child"

Just because i put a remark "we are only hearing one side of the story" in one of YOUR recent postings, you are very unhappy and decide to wage a disparagement war on some of postings of mine. This is the 3rd today you have done.  Why you did not answer Singlemom, you were already in this forum 2 years ago, why dig up old postings? What are your intentions?

Put your horse come, let's ride together.
