I bought a mix development service residence last year and since I can't get a yearly tenant, I want to try renting out on a daily, weekly or monthly basis, I wonder if renting short term in my apartment is consider legal? Do I need to get a license?

Which state are in? Normally in Malaysia, no business licence is needed as long as the apartment is used for residential purposes with the exception of Penang. Penang local council does not allow short-term rental as it is defined as illegal lodging house unless you have a lodging house licence. Else you will be issued a notice to cease such activity or summons will be issued. This might change in the future for other states. But at this moment, the government is not regulating this sector. Thus always check with your local council.

Having a license is mandatory in each and every country. In state of confusion it is always better to consult our local lawyers. A lawyer can be your guardian, agent and legal advisor as well.
