Hope to get some information. We have an old IC card that was never changed over. Our Malaysia Passport doesn't expire until a few years from now. We were able to renew it a couple of times at the Malaysia Embassy in New York. But they had told us that this would be the last time we can renew it, the next time we will need to go back to Malaysia to change the IC in order to renew the passport. I am married to a US citizen and have children in New York and haven't travel back to Malaysia since 1998. I am planning to visit Malaysia in the next 2 years but only can stay less than 3 weeks. How can I change my old IC card and get a new card within that time frame? Where should I go?

Plan to go back to Malaysia sooner rather than later.  Ask your relatives to take you to the nearest IC office.  These are in the main towns.  Take your old IC, they will photograph you and give you a new the next day. To be on the safe side, have your birth certificate and passport in hand but do not volunteer any information.  Make sure you have a contactable Malaysian address for the IC and a phone number.

I fine the attitude of Malaysian Embassy staff disgusting.  They treat you like rubbish.  Within the law, your IC whether old or new is a valid document.  Their bosses are just as useless. Good luck!

No problem one. In some ways, Malaysia is much more efficient that the West. Take your old IC to one of the IC offices, pay your fine (RM 10 per year since last renewed till present), they will give you a temporary IC and you will be able to collect your permanent Mykad approximately one week from that date (can check online for progress). In the event that you can't collect it, you can nominate one of your relatives to collect on your behalf. Easy peasy.

@Kwazyluvie,

Have you renew you old IC yet? I need your help on this. I have an old IC (the one had bunga raya on the front of the card).

I await your reply. Many thanks.
