I just got my British citizenship and applied for a UK passport. I received my UK passport but the passport office has lost my Malaysian passport. Obviously I am not keen to make a police report here in UK as I will have to say what actually happened and it will become obvious to Malaysian High Commission as to what I've done.

Any advice what I should do? Can I enter Malaysia with MyKad/IC? Or should I just enter Malaysia with British passport, make a police report in Malaysia that I misplaced my passport and apply for a replacement in Malaysia?

@dupuytren

Do you have an old passport with Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR) entry.  If so keep it like gold.

Go back to Malaysia with your British Passport, and report your Malaysian passport as lost. If they ask you the passport number say you cannot remember.  Apply for a replacement.  Go back to UK using your British Passport.  In UK when time to apply, show the High Commissioner your all passport to indicate you are free from UK immigration control, and keep your old passport.  Since you have a British Passport, you cannot get an Right of abode (ROA) or Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR) vignette.  Not sure if it will work but try.

No you cannot enter Malaysia with your MyKad.

Thanks for the reply.

I have scanned in the 'lost' Malaysian passport before I sent it off to UK passport office so I have the lost Malaysian passport number. I have a biometric card to prove my Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR) status, so I haven't got an old passport with a Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR) vignette like the old days.

Basically from what you are saying, I should just go back to Malaysia, report passport missing there to police, and apply for a new one there then?

Just concerned as I will be entering Malaysia with UK passport but I guess it's worth trying...

Any other ideas/suggestions, please?

Sorry to hear the lost of your Malaysian passport. I for once cannot imagine what if it happens to me, as my Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR) is the vignette old version! Scary...

I guess entering Malaysia with British (GB) Passport and report lost at Balai will be the best bet. Honestly, I've no idea how straight forward it is to get a new Malaysian passport for "lost cases". If they want to drill down, they might track your lost Malaysian passport no. which can show the in/out history of Malaysia country, which surely the last record won't be showing Malaysia entry but UK. This could be tricky.

A second thought would be, since you have the biometric card, might as well report lost in the UK (with a different reasons of course) and get it renew in Malaysia High Commission.

Sorry but this would be tricky as well as it's perverting the course of justice if found guilty.

Very little choice I guess...

My other option is to do the following:

Fly to Brunei with UK passport (enter Bandar Seri Begawan (BSB) with UK passport). Leave Brunei on land to go to Miri. Leave Brunei with UK passport, enter Miri with Mykad (ps. I live in Kota Kinabalu). Fly to Kota Kinabalu (KK) using Mykad.

Report lost passport there and from there get a replacement for my passport. Any comments? Can I enter Miri from Brunei with Mykad?

@Dupuytren

Do not think you can enter Miri via Brunei using MyKad. Why don't you enter Kota Kinabalu (KK) via Kuala Lumpur (KL) using MyKad and report your Malaysian Passport lost there and get a new one. Then fly to Miri using your "new" Malaysian passport, and then 'cabut' from Miri to Banda using your British Passport.  You can purchase a Royal Brunei ticket using your British Passport.  This way your British Passport has a record of entering and leaving Malaysia.  When renewing at High Commission in London, use your Biometric Card.

Thanks @miriboy

So, flying from London Heathrow Airport (LHR) via Kuala Lumpur (KL) then using a connecting domestic MAS flight to an East Malaysian city such as Miri, Kota Kinabalu (KK) or Kuching. Can I use Mykad only to enter these airports?

Can I use mykad when travelling from another country to East Malaysia via Kuala Lumpur (KL)? Please?

I have a "K" MyKad.  Between Kuala Lumpur (KL) to Sarawak, I mostly use my MyKad, unless I am going to Singapore or Banda. I have also used my MyKad to go to Kota Kinabalu (KK). I know of one Sabahan who uses her MyKad for Miri and Kuala Lumpur.  I presume you can do the same. No harm in confirming before you try!

Thanks, that's very helpful. Sounds like it might work. My only concern is that I will be flying in to Kota Kinabalu (KK) via Kuala Lumpur (KL) from London Heathrow Airport (LHR) and wondered they might want to see a passport at Kota Kinabalu (KK) considering I have flown from London Heathrow Airport (LHR). I suppose if I used a different airlines e.g. Emirates from LHR-KL and connect to KK with MAS then maybe it won't be so obvious? Or maybe I should just use MAS for the whole thing... ah I don't know!

Anyone has done this before please let me know.

Update:

Passport office (UK) sent me a letter saying that Royal Mail has lost my Malaysian passport. Went to police station to attempt to report in case of identity theft but apparently UK police don't report lost property anymore. Went to High Commission website and they acknowledge that police doesn't do this anymore but can report it to an online website.

Should I just get a new Malaysian passport back in Malaysia based on the plan we discussed above, or should I just try to get a new one here (tell them lost by Royal Mail but don't reveal the full details?)
