How do I check a person's martial status in Malaysia. I want to know if a person is married or not. Am I able to check it online?

Very simple. I hope it is your own marital status? Not online. You can go to any Jabatan Pendaftaran Negara (JPN) in Malaysia, better the HQ at Putrajaya at the Marriage/Divorce Department or whatever it is called, provide name and identity card (IC) and that should do, unless it is a very old marriage, that might take longer time. If I remember correctly you will need to fill in a form and pay RM5 for the search. That may take some time eventhough nowadays all information are in computers, there are some really old ones where the data may not have been inputed yet.

My partner claims that she has divorced.  Can I check her marital status without her consent?  If she is still in the process of filing for a divorce, will I be able to check that as well?

You may try your luck by calling (yes just calling) JPN and see whether they are willing to disclose. There was once I was lucky enough to get hold of an officer (who was definitely in good mood) and after a few minutes of chatting, he disclosed the info that I wanted to know ie marital status.

You may try this first before going further but bear in mind, it rarely happens.
