Hi there,

I (female malaysian, non-muslim) is planning to get married to my partner (male irish, muslim). Will there be any complications in obtaining my freedom to marriage certificate as my partner is a muslim and I am a non-muslim. We are planning to get our marriage certified only in Ireland and not in Malaysia. We are also planning to permanently move to Ireland.

I understood that we have to bring a copy of our part er passport when applying for the certificate thus it raise a concern to me ( cause his name clearly sounds muslim).

Please assist, thank you. 😊

We are planning to get our marriage certified only in Ireland and not in Malaysia.

Single Status Certificate

To marry overseas, non-Muslims Malaysian requires a Certificate of Single Status. However, if one is to marry a foreigner Muslim, it depends on the Islamic Laws of that country. Malaysian Embassy will not solemnize or register a marriage if the non-Muslim applicant does not have a conversion  certificate. (With the exception of certain areas of Indonesia).

How can I get single status certificate in Malaysia?

Apply in person:

First step is to obtain statutory declaration or swear your Oath at the Istana Kehakiman (Palace of Justice). You will need to pay RM4 for this service. When you have obtained your oath, go to Jabatan Pendaftaran Negara (JPN) at the NRD office 1 st floor to apply for your Single Status certificate.

bring a copy of our part er passport when applying for the certificate
i,m not sure that this is a requirement, do double check carefully. Last time from what I learned, there isn't a need for a partner's personal data (like passport). If the marriage is in Malaysia, it is definitely YES.
Solemnization of a marriage depends on the Marriage Laws of the Country.
