My parent has terminated a fixed phone line service provided by TxxMxx some years ago. Lately, we received an old debt collection letter from its appointed attorney, asking for a pay-off on outstanding charges and failing to do so will lead to further legal action against us as client.

I have called up TxxMxx call center to seek for more details about the termination and outstanding billing which we hardly can remember. I was verbally informed that the phone line has been terminated since 15 November 2001. However there is an outstanding bill of RM300 to be settled. I was shocked as this is some old debts from the past 14 years ago! I have none proved documents from my side to file the case.

My question: Is there any statute of limitation act imposed to this kind of old debts locally? Should I settle the bills which I have doubt with?

With great appreciation, thank you.

Yes there is, the Limitation Act 1953 [Act 254].
No need to pay.
But TxxMxx will just blacklist you...
