I am looking for what steps I need to take for moving to Malaysia late next year, with my wife who is from Malaysia.

We currently live in the UK and got married in the UK, partly because of religious reasons.

So we are planning to move to her home town Serian in Sarawak and to build a home on the family land we are also looking at maybe opening up a small coffee shop or restaurant.

Also is there any financial issues I need to look at, as I won't have an income as such, we will be living off our savings plus my forces pension and state pension when I hit those age limits.

I look forward to hearing from you. Many thanks.

1.  What is your nationality?
2.  How old is your wife?
3.  What is the "race" of your Muslim wife? (original Malay or others)
4.  In your pension fund, has your wife's name been put on papers as "beneficiary" (not as nominee)?
5.  Under Islamic laws, should you precede your wife, the moneys from your military pension fund to your Muslim wife can be considered as "haram" (illegal) as your marriage is not approved in Malaysia and can be subjected to high taxes. Not a big an issue though as she may still get something for her old age protection unless you have debts or alimony payment issues or child living expenses back in your own country.
6.  You have to take into consideration that you may have to jet back to your country every few months and you cannot be here on a long term basis and you will not give up your citizenship as you will lose your pension fund.
7.  Look into the option of making Malaysia as a 2nd home for retirement from the forces. Check the relevant website for latest minimum requirements.
