Hi There,

I have recently sold my apartment in Kuala Lumpur. I have handed over the key to purchaser about twenty days ago after he settled all the payment to my lawyer but I still haven't received my money!
just wondering how long do I have to wait to get the money from my lawyer?

I'm not offering answer, I'm seeking one as well.Just like to share that I see this as a common problem. It seems the standard SPA doesn't protect seller from getting paid within a period after key hand over. The lawyer who does the transaction could be using the money from buyer somewhere else first and delay in paying seller. In my case, this is delayed since July 2016. Until now I have only being paid partial sum.

No need to wonder, just call your lawyer.

@vkpc, these lawyer will play the besok lusa game. Promise but never deliver. One minute say partner need to sign, next say bank needs new procedure, after that bank stop transaction. I complained to ASDB and they also need 1 month for internal deliberation before anybaction is taken.. i think more protection needed to safe guard consumer in legal dealing in Malaysia. By depositing to lawyer the balance sum may not be of best interest to consumer.. may be a 3rd party independent trust is better.

Most likely your funds have been embezzled.
If you read the news, you will find that lawyers embezzling client's funds happens quite often.
If you are lucky, the lawyer will embezzle another client's funds to pay you.
