I'm a guarantor for my friend and he did not pay back the loan. Everyday I receive calls from debt collectors and they said will visit my mum's house even though the grant and land name under my father name. Will this have a direct effect on them, meaning my family?

The debt collectors kept asking me to pay a ridiculous amount of RM17,000 in 1 week.

They also called my spouse and said my spouse is a liar... or some or threatening words. My spouse is scared regarding this issue and asked me to do something. What should I do?

If they call you on the handphone, mark their numbers first and record the "threats" and slandering, then haul them up to court or make complaints to Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) with evidence of calls or threats.

For unregistered numbers, do not take calls to avoid confrontation.

1. Avoid calls, if they bring you to court, then write here for further advice.

2. Try to get the 'Peminjam' to settle the debt.
