Apply for your child's first passport

To get a child passport, your child must be under 18 and a Malaysian citizen.

If your child is eligible, apply at the passport counter of any Immigration Department of Malaysia or Malaysian Representative Office abroad.

Who can apply

You can usually apply a passport for your child if:
  • they're under 18
  • you legally have 'parental responsibility' for them

You automatically have parental responsibility if you:
  • are the child's mother
  • are the child's father
  • are the legitimate guardian
  • have adopted the child

Children over 18 years old

Your child must apply for an adult passport if they're already over 18. They can apply without getting parental consent.

Costs

It costs RM200 to get a child passport if your child is 13 years old and over but under 18 years old. If your child is under 13 years old, the passport fee is RM100, half-price of the normal passport fee.

How long it takes

Don't book travel until you have your child passport - doing so is at your own risk.

If you're in Malaysia:
  • Passport application will be processed on the same day and you can collect your passport on the same day.

Your application can be delayed if you don't follow instructions or that your supporting documents have defects.

If you're outside Malaysia:
  • Please refer to the Malaysian representative office for the current passport application processing times.

You must accompany your child for collection of passport.

Malaysian passport unclaimed after three (3) months from the date specified in the payment receipt will be forfeited, including the paid application fee. You will be required to submit a fresh application and appropriate fees.
