Commonly known as the Jabatan Akauntan Negara Malaysia (JANM) in Malay term. Established before 1957 (independence) with the creation of the post of Accountant General under the Ministry of Finance, which was first held by Mr. G.G.T Browne in 1946. The post was first time filled by a Malaysian in 1967. The objectives of the department are to enhance accountability and transparency in Federal Government's accounting and financial management; to enhance accounting and financial management system for all government agencies; to assist government in making effective decisions; to develop and implement human resource management system for the accounting system; and to enhance the enforcement of the Unclaimed Monies Act 1965.
