Also known as Biro Pengantaraan Kewangan in Malay. Launched in 2005, Financial Mediation Bureau (FMB) is an independent body set up to help settle disputes between you and your financial services providers who are its members. The FMB provides you with free, fast, convenient and efficient avenue to refer your disputes (loans, ATM, cash deposit machine, credit card, hire purchase, savings & current, internet banking, insurance, remittances...) for resolution as an alternative to the courts. These disputes may be banking or financial related (Amount claimed less than RM100,000) as well as insurance and takaful related (Amount claim less than RM200,000 for motor and fire insurance/takaful, RM100,000 for others & RM5,000 for 3rd party property damage). Established under the Central Bank of Malaysia Act 1958 and has been in operation since 1982. Credit Bureau collects credit information on borrowers from lending institutions and furnishes the credit information collected back to the institutions in the form of credit report via an online system known as Central Credit Reference Information System (CCRIS). To facilitate financial institutions to make assessments on credit applications, they require accurate info on their prospective borrowers. Therefore, the info in the credit report could assists them to make informed decisions on credit applications.
