Remote Sensing Malaysia is a department under the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) was established as an R&D centre in remote sensing and related technologies in August 1988 and was fully operational in January 1990.

Commissioned in 1992 under the auspices of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI). MASTIC is the national reference centre for strategic scientific and technological information. MASTIC's main functions are supporting and providing the basic for decision-making, priority-setting, planning and implementing the nation's S&T policies; directing users to relevant info resources either within their own extensive info holdings or elsewhere; and acting as linking mechanism between major players in the Malaysian S&T system. An agency under the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation and its majority shareholders is Khazanah National Bhd. MTDC was set up in 1992 to spearhead the development of technology businesses in Malaysia. Its initial role was to concentrate on the promotion and commercialisation of local research and invests in new ventures that can bring in new technologies from abroad. MTDC has evolved to become a leading venture capitalist. MTDC further evolved to become an integrated venture capital solutions provider. Today, MTDC is the one-stop agency where financing can be sourced from; all the way from laboratory ideas to full commercialisation of such ideas. Commenced operations on January 1, 1985 as the Malaysian Institute of Microelectronic Systems (MIMOS), a unit under the Prime Minister's Department. In 1990, MIMOS was placed the MOSTE, now known as (MOSTI) Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovations. In 1992, MIMOS launched Malaysia's first Internet Service Provider (ISP), JARING. In November 1996, MIMOS was corporatised as a company under the Ministry of Finance. MIMOS is a Research and Development (R&D) organisation specialising in the areas of ICT and microelectronics. It focuses on applied research areas - cyberspace security, encription systems, grid computing, communication technologies, microenergy, microsystems (MEMS/NEMS), advanced informatics & knowledge technology. Projects developed by MIMOS includes iVEST (Virtual Environment for Secure Transactions), MyCfL (Malaysia's first Cryptography protocol), NISER (National ICT Security and Emergency Response Centre) and Cikgu.net (Portal for educators).

Formerly known as the Multimedia Super Corridor. MSC Malaysia, conceptualised in 1996, is a Government designated zone, designed to leapfrog Malaysia into the information and knowledge age. It houses core MSC initiative, which include e-Government, Telemedicine, Smart School, Multipurpose Smart Card system, R&D Cluster, e-Business and Technolopreneur Development. Companies, local and international, that attained the MSC status enjoy a host of incentives from the Government backed by the 10-point Bill of Guarantees. Multimedia Development Corporation (MDeC) is the agency under the purview of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovations and is responsible for overseeing MSC Malaysia implementation. MDec will market MSC Malaysia globally, shape MSC Malaysia-specific laws & policies by advising the Government and set standards of MSC Malaysia's information infrastructure and urban development.
