Do You Know Why The American Soldiers In World War II Were Called G.I.s?

The nickname G.I.s was originated in World War II. Since then, it has stuck and most soldiers are being called by the name now. "G.I.", an abbreviation for "Government Issue", was stamped on all government kits supplied to recruits in the American Army during that war.

It's as rather a cynical joke, that the soldiers thought themselves little more important than their equipment and started calling themselves G.I.s.
